I’m paddling the Mississippi River source to sea in a kayak. From it’s source at Lake Itasca, Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico. A journey of 3750 kilometers.

Do you do any canoeing also? If so, what do you recommend to those with zero experience before attempting this?
ill be heading down to the gulf in about a week. heading down the rock river to davenport Illinois to the Mississippi any tips would be great.
The guy in the store looked like George Clooney
Just tie your food up into a bag and hang it high from a tree. No bear worries!
I’m Planning to do this In may does anyone know how much money a trip like this usually cost I have a $1500 kayak already I’m just talking about food and supplies
Knap gedaan en de video mooi gemaakt, het klinkt alsof je vader een Gronings accent heeft, ik heb ook 30 jaar in Groningen gewoond.
this is so darn cool
Hello Henk, i found this series the other day and love it!! good job! can you please tell me which kayak you used and what if any thing you would change about it just for doing the lake itasca to clearwater trip.
thank you !!
wha tent are you using
Henk , when you planned this trip how many Zero Days did you plan for and how many did you actually need ?I’m planning on starting this trip on April 15 2018 to get high water , low bugs at the beginning and to avoid Hurricane Season at the endDo you think that that’s too early ?Thanks for your help
Machette for bears? Well nice knowing you….. Besides I’d be more worried about cougars once again nice knowing you
I’m starting to pack and plan for a trip staring in the nishnabotna and making my way all the way to gulf as well! So glad you posted this!!! Would you be able to tell me what kind of pack that is on the front of your yak?
How hard was it when you got to the barges in terms of not getting swamped? I use to canoe when I was a kid, but I have not done it in years so I’m a little nervous about getting flipped.
Also what was it like trying to find camp sites in snake and alligator country?
What kind of shoes did you wear, and would you wear them again?
One day I’d like to do this trip but start at the source of the Missouri river all the way to the Gulf. Looking forward to the rest of your trip so thanks for filming and posting it. Nice way to spend a lazy Sunday.
how much do one of these canoes cost?
This will be a fun series to watch. Thanks for creating it. One question, how did you manage to keep your camera’s / gopro’s charged?
I would not shave with water from the Mississippi, especially farther down the river
Thanks for sharing Henk van der Klok…looking forward to watching the rest of your journey…I live on the Mississippi in La Crosse Wisconsin and camp regularly on it’s banks…looking to get a kayak this spring and do some practicing….would love to do a float through some year
Thanks for recording and posting your adventures. Are there designated campsites ? I am very uneasy about camping anywhere that isn’t strictly legal. How did you figure out how many miles you would do each day?
Way cool!
Epic. I would like to do this adventure some day!
Whenever I watch one of these vids, I think of Lewis and Clarke. I would love to do one of these, but I’d better improve my swimming skills. Your father is in no shape for something like this.
cool vid. I went down the Mississippi River before, and your vid brings back memories. It is a BIG river and it’s a beauty river from northern Minnesota to the Gulf. The best way to see the real America. Here’s the trailer vid from my trip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5uXfWwrMcI
This gives me major in transit vibes
I’d love to try this one day, but I’d have to quit by job and a whole sort of other things.
