I am from Cape Girardeau Grew up on North Spanish yousta walk down to the mouth of Sloan creek and fish every day. You didnt see many recreational vehicles because during storm season, well you saw. Next time don’t stop on the Illinois side to camp because the river has a bias in that section and the ILL side is lower meaning that flash flooding effects it more than the Missouri side.

Also seeing Schnucks, Broussard’s, and the wall gave me some keen nostalgia tyty.

    Another great video.

I took note of your comment about how the Missouri River changes the nature of the Mississippi. In actuality, the Missouri has comparable volume of water as the upper Mississippi, so it’s not just a tributary. When you were up in the Arch, you could have seen the Mississippi is browner on the Missouri side because the waters don’t fully merge together until past downtown StL. The early settlers described the Missouri as “too muddy to drink, but too wet to plow”.

Hi Peter, I’ve seen all of your Mississippi River videos, but I
wonder at anytime, did you flip over? How did you deal with the
wake from larger boats and ships? Thanks.

I’ve been to Cape Girardeau twice the first time I went It felt like we were being baked in a oven because it was so hot and then it rained on us the second time however was way better because it was a lot cooler and got to shop around some more.

I occasionally go jugging for catfish on Miss. River in Cape with son-in-law. Used to do it on Miss River after work when I lived in Blytheville, too. Fun but always mindful of safety! Never take refuge under trees during storms!

Ya got guts riding the Mississippi River in a canoe.

  21. Workhorse on January 2, 2021 at 11:04 pm

haha that would be awesome, if you wish to do that just let me know and you have a partner. i do love your focus though, although i am not sure you would like it in Canada that much, you like to go to all the towns and explain the culture, while here you would bike 300km with no towns in between. But alas come to Canada and go on a bike trip ( and let me tag along :D)

  25. intransitTV on January 2, 2021 at 11:07 pm

not a weird question at all. we tied it up at a boat landing and brought along our valuables. From our experience on the river, we weren’t to concerned with someone stealing the canoes.

  42. jeremy wills on January 2, 2021 at 11:29 pm

you wanna know why there’s nobody jet ski on the river because it will swallow you up and never spit you out your on a river that has an underground river under it.i’ve seen trees get sucked under the water when a whirlpool pops up out of nowhere and drag it to God knows where glad ya’ll made it off the river safe.

  43. NUMB IMMUNE on January 2, 2021 at 11:30 pm

I work on the river and live in cape girardeau missouri. I’ve seen you guys going down the river and before watching your videos the first time I saw you guys doing, I was like look at these idiots lol. But watching all of these made it look fun and you guys not looking like idiots. I’d do it myself but I work and live out here on a boat and after riding this boat for a month the last thing I would want to do is get right back out, especially not in a canoe. Anyway good job on these videos there DEFENTLY worth watching more than once.

  44. russtex on January 2, 2021 at 11:31 pm

Good thing you got off the river during that storm! Glad that you didn’t get hit by a falling tree as well!
