Backpacking Gear – Southeastern US "Nutnfancy Influenced"

This is a quick look at my backpacking gear that I’ve gathered over the past year or so. I wanted to be equipped for short overnighters, loop hikes, and bivouac style hikes. With that being said, I would never take all of this stuff at the same time, but it gives me options for different hikes and different climates. Since I’ve been out of backpacking for about 11 years, I found a lot of this stuff through Nutnfancy’s YouTube channel. It was really nice to not have to buy and return inferior equipment once I found it out to be crap. I am by no means one of Nutnfancy’s worshipers, but I appreciate what he does and respect his opinion on most backpacking and tactical gear. I’m sure all of my gear will continue to evolve and change the more I put it to use and develop my own systems. Most of my backpacking is done here in the southeast U.S. in the Great Smokey Mountains on the Appalachian Trail. Thanks for watching!

Those are snake guns, for shootin’ snakes! There’s lots of snakes out there.

@MrJalepacino Well I do not know what times you are living in but recently ALL decent semi-automatic guns can preform almost flawlesly in just about every condition. There are examples of the Glock on youtube that was buried for over 2 years and preformed flawlesly with over 500 rounds through it after being buried.

I wonder if Bear Grylls brings a hand gun.

@kookiemoose I still wouldn’t piss in a bottle, maybe that’s just me lol. But ya I can see in that case up a mountain or something that would make sense. I actually think its kinda fun to watch your piss freeze mid steam in the winter : )

you carry handguns on a hike? what the bleeping bleep is wrong with this world?? i go camping to get AWAY from those things. Why so paranoid?

  7. SavageShooter93 on December 8, 2019 at 7:52 pm

Hey i see alot of people carrying those sawvivor foldable saws, and every time i use the Sabercut saw i carry everyones always amazed at how easy it is to use and how well it works, yeah it makes chainsaw like cuts and not a precise small cut like a wood saw but thats never hindered making any rough and ready well anything, in the woods
when i get around to it i will make a vid reviewing it and not a 30 second one like ive seen they are great, so kkep an eye out for the review and the sabercut

  12. Dr.Trollish on December 8, 2019 at 7:56 pm

@kookiemoose Why would you even need a pee bottle in the woods ?

  13. gcollin75 on December 8, 2019 at 7:59 pm

Your going to die before your son reaches age ten if you keep carrying all that stuff.

  14. DobermansRock on December 8, 2019 at 8:00 pm

@codcoda Yes but only in Central Park.

  15. SavageShooter93 on December 8, 2019 at 8:02 pm

Yeah the gun is for 2 legged predators not animals park rangers out here carry guns because of people cooking meth out in the woods, Who should be shot BTW, I carry a Pheonix Arms 22 pistol and thats all i need, Id rather carry 50 rds in 5 mags than my heavy CZ 85 and 30 rounds of 9mm in 2 mags, and the caliber doesnt matter when you can put 10 rounds through the same hole in 2 seconds at 15yds with a 22, Also highly unlikely but i also carry another 50rds of 22 in the pack just in case

I have a Ruger LCP and while 380 is fine for personal protection in the urban jungle I know it wouldnt do much for keeping bears away. Get a Ruger 454 or dont bother. Or make a couple spears and keep them handy.

G’day, Nice stuff mate, I’m in Australia and just wondering what you take a pistol/firearm for? Also, what do you use the knife for? i don’t see the point in taking so much weight in a knife.

    Cheers

You put "nutnfancy influenced" just to get search hits and views. Disliked!

Are you serious!? Defiant overkill, Jesus…

  22. rattfink17 on December 8, 2019 at 8:16 pm

    cool

  23. chris smith on December 8, 2019 at 8:17 pm

I’d leave the guns at home. One of the best parts of going out in the woods is the feeling of "surviving". Most people think the opposite, you need weapons to survive, but you might as well take a body gaurd with you also. Leave out the weapons and enjoy all of the spooky things that go bump in the night.

If a bear attacks you you’ve already screwed up. anyy goodwoodman/prepper knows how to keep bears away

I carry a ruger 10/22 with folding stock. It keeps fresh meat in the pot. mmmmm… squirll. The fish not biting? See um right there… Bang! Bang! problem solved. Something creepy drags off your backpack in the middle of the night.. Open fire on it. It will run away. A hog in your path? Empty 25 rounds +1 into it and you have a dead hog you can eat. .22 ammo is lightweight and cheap. Although I’m saving up for a ruger hunter .22 pistol that I can mont a scope to.

  27. trollgoal on December 8, 2019 at 8:24 pm

with all the dead wood on the forest floor and along most rals, what do you need a folding say and that butcherknife for???

  28. AndyandJoni T on December 8, 2019 at 8:24 pm

People need to get off his dick about the guns. I grew up hiking frequently and the rule was, if you can pack it, pack it. All this b.s. about too much weight is up to the individual and their capability, not to mention the hike itself. Hiking alone on the Appalachian trail, I would carry too. Be prepared and trek on!

@cleartwistedcross Ahh i see, Nice stuff still. Here in aussie land the biggest thing we have to defend our selfs against is an kangaroo! haha, so harmless!

  30. ianarno on December 8, 2019 at 8:27 pm

I haven’t read the comments but I’m sure there have been some Nutn haters. If your system works for you, it does not matter what has influenced you to come to such a conclusion. My own gear is very similar, enjoy your backpacking!

on the toothbrush subject i bought some of those colgate "wisp" things they were advertising a while ago, they are mini toothbrushes with a dab of toothpaste already on them, and you dont need water to use them. they come 4 in a pack and there is a soft rubber pick on the handle, they really work well and are pretty cheap like 5 bucks a pack, and scince you dont have to waste water you brought to brush and rinse its great. the paste is like congealed mouthwash its strange but it really works

  33. kookiemoose on December 8, 2019 at 8:31 pm

@pac6010 Imagine it’s february, you’re in a tent at 4-5 thousand feet, it’s sleeting out, the windchill is say minus 15 degrees, and you’re wiped out from a 15-25 mile day. : )

  34. Eat Carbs Outdoors on December 8, 2019 at 8:32 pm

    Rock on TNP!

  35. kookiemoose on December 8, 2019 at 8:33 pm

I thru hiked the AT with a guy who washed his pee bottle out every morning, and used it as a water bottle during the day. Needless to say no one ever asked him if he could spare any water, ever.

  36. 5dognight1 on December 8, 2019 at 8:35 pm

@cleartwistedcross – Dude, all good gear choices. Don’t let these "ultralight" pansies in the comments get to ya. Just because they can’t carry the weight doesn’t mean you shouldn’t. It sounds to me like they’re either lazy or weak…maybe both. Let your son carry some weight too when he’s old enough (depussification) and you’ll both be stronger for it. Let the "ultralight" fannypackers stay weak. BTW…congrats on your son and see you on the trail someday.

u rule my man. and the awesome difference between u and nutnfancy is u take 8 minutes to show ur gear, NOT, 8 15 minute parts. but I do respect nutnfancy. keep up the voids

I’m not trying to criticize you, just wondering. Why do you bring a gun?

  42. Whipstorm on December 8, 2019 at 8:43 pm

@tmorente All Bear needs is his own piss!
